HardtraX's 1990 Volkswagen Golf GTI - Fire & Ice
The Golf Fire & Ice is one of the most wanted special-models on the German market. All Fire & Ice were built between 1990 and 1991 and made part of a promotional campaign for the movie "Fire, Ice & Dynamite" by Willy Bogner jr. starring Roger Moore and Simon Shepherd.
Fire and Ice Golfs were available in Germany exclusively (all Fire & Ice outside of Germany were exports by VW-enthusiasts) in the following versions:
- Fire & Ice 1.8l / 90bhp
- Fire & Ice Automatic 1.8l / 90bhp
- Fire & Ice GTI 1.8l / 107bhp
- Fire & Ice GTD 1.6l turbo-diesel / 80bhp
- Fire & Ice GTI 16v 1.8l / 129bhp
- Fire & Ice GTI G60 1.8l /160bhp
** NOTE: The GTI 16v and GTI G60 versions of the Fire & Ice are extremely hard to find!
Despite common belief and rumors that 7000 Fire & Ice were built, VW recently stated that the number of Fire & Ice manufactured and sold on the German market was 16700.
Based on the Golf CL (as the factory-code reveals - not Golf GT as many people assume) the Fire & Ice model features the following differences compared to a standard Golf:
* only 1 paint-finish available: dark violet perleffect (LC4V)
* comes with 90-spec GTI trim (thin sidebars, sideskirts etc.)
** NOTE: GTI trim is on ALL Fire & Ice models from the basic 90hp upto GTI G60 version! Even the Fire & Ice GTI G60 does NOT come with G60-flares!
* large Fire & Ice logos on the rear quarter panels
* Fire & Ice sidemarker-emblems instead of indicators or CL/GTI/G60 emblems
** NOTE: Even the GTI versions do NOT have GTI-emblems apart from the pink (!!!) rear-badge saying "Golf GTI". The Fire & Ice GTI G60 version comes with an additional "G60" grille-badge however.
* pink colour-coded "Golf" rear-badge and additional rear Fire & Ice logo to the left
* partially painted "big" GL-/GTI-bumpers and mirrors + painted rear-handle
* Fire & Ice sports-seats in violet/blue/black (custom Fire & Ice cloth) manufactured by Recaro with Fire & Ice logo embroided
** NOTE: An extremely rare semi-leather trim exists - full leather trim optional. Fire & Ice interiour-trim with 4 headrests instead of 2 is considered as seldom.
* hight-adjustment for front-seats
* headrests in violet/blue (custom Fire & Ice cloth)
* ceiling and carpet in black
* ashtray with Fire & Ice logo
* comes with 15"-BBS Estoril alloys and 185/55 R15 tyres.
* GTI 16v and GTI G60 versions feature the GTI sports steering wheel
* deep front spoiler-lip
* green tinted windows
* double headlight grille with black VW badge
* black rear VW badge
* white front indicators and darkened rear lights

Modifications
My modifications so far:
* 16" SMC "Backflip" alloys
* modified head-gasket
* very rare rear-seat in Fire & Ice cloth with additional headrests (original VW)
* badgeless grille
* clear headlights and front-indicators (with integrated parking light)
* VR6 leather steering-wheel
* Lexus-style tail-lights
* stainless-steel group-N exhaust
* interiour: four GTI handles
* remote-controlled alarm system
Unvoluntary/unwanted modifications:
* exterior GTI trim damaged due to theft
* various (little) paint-scratches due to vandalism
* various little flaws that don't stand out but nag me anyway (it's my daily driver...)
* no car hifi (i.e. not even a simple radio) - the car had an original VW Aktiv system back in 1990
To do:
* fix the shit mentioned above
* blacked out B-pillars
* replace "normal" badgeless Bonrath grille by 3-bar "Rallye Look" version manufactured by Mattig
* replace clear headlights by halo-rim-version
* clear foglights
* either new frontseats or a good cleaning
* Jetta-style lower grille trim
* lower sports-suspension
* upper grille-spoiler
* additional LED-brakelight
* get hold of green Happich pop-out windows at last
* other stuff
